Why Choose 4 Paws Dog Grooming

At 4 Paws we put your dog's welfare and emotional state at the heart of everything we do.

We know finding the right salon and groomer is the key to your dog’s happiness. It is therefore important that you go to a groomer that can adapt to your dog’s needs and personality.
At 4 Paws we offer one to one grooming and strive to make your dog feel that extra bit special.

We want all our dogs to love being groomed at 4 Paws and want to make it a happy and relaxed enviroment that your dog wants to come back to and not to feel wary or afraid as can sometimes happen.

Full Groom

At the first visit a consultation will take place where we will assess your dogs condition and temperament.

Teeth Cleaning

Pain-free tooth cleaning using a noise and vibration free toothbrush. The ultrasonic waves loosen light tatar.

Nail Trims

Keeping your dog’s nails trimmed helps their posture and the way they walk on their pads.

We understand that each dog is unique and has their own personality and quirks.

At 4 Paws we understand that the majority of dogs do not enjoy grooming and may suffer from anxiety and stress while in the grooming atmosphere, so we ensure a safe, loving environment to put them at ease.

With 4 Paws you can feel confident that we will treat your dog like one of our own.

As we have your dog’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do, on your first visit you will be asked about your dog’s medical history. We will ask if your dog has any lumps or bumps, if their vaccinations and monthly treatments are up to date, as this will enable us to notice if anything is different from their previous visit, which you may not have noticed from seeing them every day. It also means that we can adapt and alter our methods to suit your individual dog.

Frequently asked questions

What if I don't like my dog's groom?

Please let us know what you feel went wrong, as this will help us to make any changes, as your feedback will be much appreciated. We will on collection ask you for your feedback and explain if we have had to change anything based on the dogs coat condition.  We keep detailed records of how to achieve the style so this may be adapted for your next visit should this be required.

Should your dog be walked before their groom?

If they are in a routine, then please keep them in their routine. However, as long as they have relieved themselves before the appointment this will reduce the amount of stress for them in what can be a new and different environment.

Can I stay with my dog?

With grooming very sharp equipment is used (clippers/scissors) and while you think you may settle your dog, it can be quite the opposite. You being there tends can distract your dog, as you are their best friend and this could cause unnecessary stress, as they will want to be with you.

Grooming old/elderly or overweight dogs?

As long as any medical issues have been disclosed, and your dog is healthy this should be safe, as we do give all dogs rest breaks so that they are not stressed. If in doubt please contact your Vet for further advice.

What if I am early?

If we have not finished grooming your dog and you arrive this can sometimes upset and distract the dog as they will want to be with you. This can be very dangerous while we are using equipment, so if possible please wait until we contact you to advise that your dog is ready for collection. But please be rest assured they are being taken care of and their wellbeing is at the heart of our business.

How long will the groom last?

This will depend on the size and temperament of your dog. We take the utmost care of your dog and take the time to make them comfortable and if they are afraid of certain parts of the groom we also take our time so that it is as stress free as possible. We also dry dogs on a cool temperature so as to not stress them which does take a little longer. Please be rest assured that your dog is cared for and being loved.

Should I bath my dog between appointments?

If you do bath your dog at home, please make sure that they are thoroughly brushed and that there are no mats or tats left in their coat. However if your dog has been out and about and in need of a good wash, please get in touch as we can accommodate a bath and dry.

How will you advise my dog is ready for collection?

We will text or ring you to advise that your dog is ready for collection, please make sure that you collect your dog within 30 minutes unless you have arranged something prior to leaving your dog with us.

Are my dogs nails too long?

Inside the hard outer shell is a blood vessel called the “Quick” which grows with the nail. If the nails are long then only the ends can be trimmed as this makes the quick recede. This means you may have to make regular visits until the nails are at the correct length. If they are left long this affects their posture and the way they walk.

What happens if a nail quick is cut?

Working with animals sometimes means they move when you don’t want them too which could cause the quick to be cut, in this instance we will administer a coagulant to stop the blood. However with regular trimming of the nails the quick will recede.

Can my dog be groomed just after it has been spayed or neutered?

We would recommend you wait until at least 3 weeks after the procedure as this ensures all wounds are healed and they have fully recovered. Always ask your vet if you are unsure.

Why are there notices stating CCTV is in operation?

This is for your safety, your dog’s safety and our own. As this can be replayed if anything untoward happens. This is also for the security of our business premises.

We also give your pet a number of breaks throughout the grooming process so that they have a stress free groom. So our grooming process may take a little longer than others, but be rest assured they are well looked after, while in our care.
